In Dell Unity XT storage systems, a dynamic pool is built using drive partnership groups. A drive partnership group is a group of drives that are combined to create a pool. A drive partnership group can be made up of SAS, NL-SAS, or Flash drives. The Dell PowerStore appliance provides two methods to migrate storage resources within the same cluster: Assisted Migration and Volume Motion.

Assisted Migration: This method allows the administrator to manually initiate and control the migration process, and it allows for the migration of individual resources such as LUNs, file systems and snapshots.

Volume Motion: This method allows the administrator to move a LUN or file system from one storage pool to another on the same PowerStore appliance or within the same cluster. This is done without any disruption to the hosts accessing the data and it can be automated with the use of policies.

It's important to note that the Live Migrate and Migrate options are not available to migrate storage resources within the same cluster in Dell PowerStore.

Dell Unity XT storage pools can be configured to minimize the chance of running out of space due to snapshot utilization by setting high and low watermarks to remove old snapshots. A high watermark is set to specify the maximum amount of space that can be consumed by snapshots before the oldest snapshots are automatically removed. This is a good way to ensure that snapshots do not consume all available space, and helps to prevent the pool from running out of space.

FAST Cache is an intelligent caching technology that optimizes data access for OLTP workloads by tracking and promoting data at the granularity of 8KB blocks. It uses a combination of flash memory and DRAM to store frequently accessed data, allowing the system to quickly access the most frequently used data, reducing latency and improving overall performance.
